A great honorable double award for Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms at Aristoleo High Phenolic Awards 2020, for the highest concentration of phenolic compounds (health beneficial ingredients), for our table olives, worldwide.
Aristoleo High Phenolic Table Olive Awards is an international competition that ranks table olives based on their concentration of beneficial compounds (polyphenols) present in table olives.
These health beneficial compounds are now measurable with the NMR method (Nuclear Magnetic Resonance), developed by Greek scientists at the Department of Pharmacy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Department of Pharmacognosy and Natural Product Chemistry), collaborating with the World Olive Center for Health, U.C. Davis California and many other universities from abroad.
This method was developed by Professor Mr. Prokopios Magiatis, Professor Mrs. Meliou Eleni and their research group at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.
These beneficial compounds, found in table olives, are called polyphenols. The main compounds in the phenolic group are Tyrosol, Hydroxytyrosol and their derivatives.
They are natural antioxidants which have significant biological activity and have been attributed with anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, heart protective and neuro-protective properties.
The European Regulation 432/2012, which is in effect, states that when those compounds exist in a certain minimum concentration in a product, that product is attributed a Health Claim with signs of health – beneficial properties.
The European Regulation sets the minimum limit at 5mg of Tyrosol, Hydroxytyrosol and their derivatives.
The international competition Aristoleo High Phenolic Awards 2020 categorizes each sample of table olives based on the total concentration of phenolic substances, measured by the NMR method.
It was completed on March 19 2020 and the results are astonishing for Sakellaropoulos Organic Farms, with a major double distinction for our table olives.

Based on the NMR analysis, along with this major double distinction, it turns out that the daily consumption of 3 grams from these table olives provides more than 5 mg of tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol and their derivatives. It corresponds to the consumption of 20 grams of high phenolic olive oil that belongs in the category of olive oils that protect from blood lipid oxidation, according to EU Reg. 432/2012.
This is one of the reasons that our table olives have participated in a plethora of clinical trials and studies on human health and blood lipid oxidation. One example of that is the clinical trial carried out by the scientific team of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens in collaboration with the 401 General Military Hospital of Athens. The healthy volunteers that participated saw a significant improvement of their lipidemic profile, specifically their LDL/HDL cholesterol ratios, by just consuming 5 of our table olives on a daily basis.
This award is a great honor, which rewards our efforts over the past 28 years for producing specialized organic products that besides their many awards for their taste and quality (164 international awards) are now being awarded for their health beneficial properties, with the highest concentration of such ingredients worldwide, for the 4th year in a row.
