5 Gold Awards at Aristoleo High Phenolic Table Olives 2021

A great honorary distinction with the 5 top gold awards of the ARISTOLEO High Phenolic Table Olive Awards 2021 for Sakellaropoulos organic farms

Aristoleo High Phenolic Table Olive Awards is the international competition that counts the high beneficial ingredients (phenols) found in table olives. For 2021 they were held in Toronto, Canada for the 6th consecutive year.

These beneficial ingredients in table olives are called phenols, mainly hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol and their derivatives.

These phenols are powerful micronutrients, with excellent pharmacological action, belonging to natural antioxidants with significant biological activity and have been attributed anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, cardioprotective and neuroprotective properties.

The beneficial effect of phenols is officially recognized in the European Regulation 432/2012 that is in force, where these ingredients when contained in a percentage and above (limit), enable the olive products that contain them to have a health claim with clear indications of health protection. The limit of the European regulation is at least 5 mg of hydroxytyrosol, tyrosol and their derivatives per 20 g of olive product and it states that "Olive oil phenols help protect blood lipids from oxidative stress".

These health-protective ingredients are now measurable with great accuracy by the method of Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR) used by Greek scientists at the Department of Pharmacy of the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (Department of Pharmacognosy and Natural Products Chemistry) in collaboration with the World Olive Center for Health, UC Davis California as well as other university departments abroad.

This method provides very reliable results, compared to others and is widely used by professor Mr. Magiatis Prokopis, professor Mrs. Melliou Eleni as well as their research team, at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens.

The international competition ARISTOLEO High Phenolic Table Olive Awards 2021 is based on the measurement of the total amount of tyrosol and hydroxytyrosol (predominant phenolic compounds) as measured by the NMR method.

It was completed on April 23, 2021 and the results showed that the table olives of Sakellaropoulos organic farms are the top worldwide in phenol content and for this they were ranked in the first places of the competition, collecting a double gold and four gold prizes, winning all 5 top places. In detail, the award-winning table olives are:

VALSAMIKES – DOUBLE GOLD AWARD - EXTREME HEALTH AWARD 2021
(Concentration 2100 mg/kg)

PORTOKALENIES – GOLD AWARD - SUPER HEALTH AWARD 2021
(Concentration 1900 mg/kg)

LEMONENIES – GOLD AWARD - SUPER HEALTH AWARD 2021
(Concentration 1830 mg/kg)

KALAMON – GOLD AWARD - SUPER HEALTH AWARD 2021
(Concentration 1700 mg/kg)

TELIES – GOLD AWARD - SUPER HEALTH AWARD 2021
(Concentration 1570 mg/kg)

It is worth noting that Valsamikes olives set a new record for phenol concentration (2100 mg / kg), the highest ever recorded in commercial table olive samples that participated at the Aristoleo High Phenolic Table Olive Awards to date.

It is also noted that in all olive samples of Sakellaropoulos organic farms, tyrosol levels are much higher than the average of commercial olive samples (134 mg / kg) that have been analyzed from 2005 until today.

Based on the NMR analysis, along with this major double distinction, it turns out that the daily consumption of 3 grams from these table olives provides more than 5 mg of tyrosol, hydroxytyrosol and their derivatives. It corresponds to the consumption of 20 grams of high phenolic olive oil that belongs in the category of olive oils that protect from blood lipid oxidation, according to EU Reg. 432/2012.

This is one of the reasons why the table olives of Sakellaropoulos organic farms have participated in clinical studies concerning human health. Recently, professor Mr. Magiatis Prokopis analyzed the results of the new clinical study conducted with the organic Kalamata type olives of Sakellaropoulos organic farms in over 100 patients, which showed that with the consumption 5 olives a day for a month, cholesterol can be reduced by up to 50 units, without any other medication or dietary changes. Watch the interview of Mr. Magiatis in the following video:

This multiple award is a special honor because it justifies our effort for 30 consecutive years in the production of specialized organic olive products, which in addition to the many awards worldwide for their taste characteristics (reaching a total of 238 international awards), are now awarded for their high content of health protective ingredients, for the sixth consecutive year.
